SURREY Mayor Brenda Locke slammed Solicitor General and Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth on Friday, accusing him of being “incredibly disrespectful” and saying that “politics and not public safety in Surrey” appeared to be behind his recommendation to continue with the municipal police transition.
She wondered why Farnworth was now willing to spend money for the transition when previously he had said the City would not get any financial help.
Locke said the Surrey City Council’s decision made five months ago to retain the RCMP as the police of jurisdiction in the city had not changed.
She criticized Farnworth for the “heavily redacted” report she had received just 2O minutes earlier. She said that the Council would review this information and act in the best interest of the citizens of Surrey.
