THE Surrey Police Service Gang Crime Unit seized a firearm and a loaded magazine in a vehicle and arrested two men following a traffic stop in east Newton late on Thursday, January 16.
At about 11 p.m. on January 16, Surrey Police Service Gang Crime Unit officers were conducting proactive patrols in east Newton when they stopped a vehicle near 140 Street and 78Â Avenue after seeing it driving erratically.
During the stop, officers located two knives, a firearm magazine loaded with .22 calibre rounds, and an unloaded .22 calibre rifle that had been heavily modified to resemble the size of a handgun.
The driver and passenger, both of whom are known to police, were arrested and released on an undertaking pending further investigation and potential consideration of criminal charges by the BC Prosecution Service. The firearm was seized and will be submitted for forensic testing.
