TONIGHT at midnight, Surrey Police Service will assume police of jurisdiction responsibilities for the City of Surrey and will oversee all operational policing-related duties.

Surrey Police Service Chief Constable Norm Lipinski will be joined by Garry Begg, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, City of Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, and Assistant Commissioner John Brewer, Criminal Operations Officer – Core Policing for the BC RCMP at a press conference on Friday afternoon at Surrey Police Service Headquarters at 14355 57th Avenue.

Following a traditional welcome and blessing from Chief Chappell on behalf of the Semiahmoo First Nation, the speakers will provide brief comments on this historic change in policing in the City of Surrey.

However, the event will not be a formal “Change of Command” ceremony. That event will likely take place sometime in early 2025.
