ON May 31, at approximately 4 a.m., Surrey RCMP officers attended to a report of a female, possibly impaired, yelling at a security guard near 106th Avenue and 130th Street. When the officers arrived, the female quickly left the scene in a burgundy Mitsubishi Eclipse.

A short time later, the Mitsubishi returned to the area and police attended again along with an Integrated Police Dog Service officer. Officers quickly placed stop sticks in front and behind the Mitsubishi’s tires. The female driver and lone occupant again drove away from police, over the stop sticks, into a park, and back onto the roadway on deflated tires.

The police followed the Mitsubishi for a short distance at speeds of approximately 30 km/hr. Due to the unsafe driving behaviour and the driver’s refusal to stop for police, police boxed the Mitsubishi in at 104th Avenue and King George Boulevard, which caused a minor collision with a police vehicle. The female driver refused to unlock or exit the vehicle which required the police to break the driver’s side window and physically remove her from the car.

The 54-year-old female driver was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital.  The investigation is still ongoing.
