Surrey RCMP search for possible witness vehicle in July 29 fatal collision

SURREY RCMP are looking for the driver of a white Tesla who drove by the scene of the Saturday, July 29 fatal collision.

They are also urging the driver who fled the scene of the collision to come forward.

On July 29 at approximately 12:38 a.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian hit-and-run collision in the 8200-block of 128 Street. The pedestrian, a 31-year-old man, was transported to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Moments after the collision took place, a white Tesla drove southbound past the collision scene on 128 Street (see photo). Surrey RCMP say there is the possibility that the Tesla’s dash camera recorded footage of the collision or captured the suspect vehicle/driver that fled the scene. The Tesla driver may be unaware they drove by a fatal collision.

The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation team is working to identify the vehicle and driver that fled the scene. The vehicle is described as a blue sedan with front-end damage that was last seen northbound on 128 Street.

Police are hoping the driver will do what’s right and come forward to speak with investigators.

“There is a family grieving the loss of their loved one and they deserve answers,” said Media Relations Officer Cpl. Vanessa Munn. “Police are urging the driver involved in the collision to contact them. Although you can’t change what happened, you can do the right thing and help bring some closure to the family.”

Police are requesting anyone who was there that night or who may have dash camera footage of the collision or suspect vehicle to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
