Surrey seeks input on designs for new athletics centre planned for Bear Creek Park

THE final phase of public consultation is now open for the proposed new Bear Creek Athletics Centre. Surrey residents and stakeholders are invited to provide input on the designs which will include an improved track, a synthetic turf field and a partially covered grandstand seating for 2,200 spectators. The new grandstand will also include team changerooms, officials’ rooms, equipment storage space, ticketing office, public washrooms and concession facilities.

“The planned sporting facility upgrades at Bear Creek Park will help position Surrey as a regional destination for high-level soccer and football games in addition to a full range of track and field sports,” said Neal Aven, Manager of Parks. “It will also provide the local community access to state-of-the-art sporting amenities and provide the City with a potential new venue to host cultural events.”

The public is invited to take a survey and attend an open house, happening on August 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the track at Bear Creek Park. Surrey Parks staff will share information on a refined design concept and will be available to answer questions. The feedback gathered will be used to guide the detailed design for the project. Survey closes August 29.
