Surrey wrestler Jimsher Sidhu headed to South Dakota State University

 

Sidhu_Jimsher-239x300JIMSHER Sidhu, currently a member of the Rustom Wrestling Club in Surrey, has earned a Division 1 scholarship to South Dakota State University. He is trained by Harjit Phelwan of Surrey. Earlier, Jimsher was with Khalsa Wrestling Club.

According to GoJacks.com, the official website of South Dakota State Athletics, South Dakota State head wrestling coach Chris Bono announced the signing of Jimsher Sidhu to the 2014-15 Jackrabbit wrestling recruiting class. He signed his National Letter of Intent indicating his plan to enroll to SDSU in the fall.

“Jimmy is truly a diamond in the rough,” Bono said. “He has the build that we were looking for and the sky is the limit for him. We are beyond excited to get him in the room.”

The press release stated that Jimsher “took third in the 2014 Cadet Pan Am Championships. He also won the Cadet/Juvenile Canadian Championship and FILA Cadet Trials in 2014.”

“These two guys [Jimsher and another wrestler] add another level of depth and intensity to our program,” Bono added. “They are going to come here and bring immediate competition to our room, which is going to make our team stronger. This is an outstanding recruiting class that will help us take the next step as a program.”

Jimsher’s dad Inderjit Sidhu told the VOICE: “Jimmy is an honor roll student and is proud of his Punjabi roots and Sikh faith for instilling in him work ethic that will carry him to success on the mat, in the classroom and in life. The family is proud that God has shown him this path.”
