INDUSTRIAL activity is booming in Surrey’s Campbell Heights, with over $72 million in new construction and improvements from January to May, exceeding 2020’s year-over-year construction values by 12%. Campbell Heights has accommodated over 30 new companies since 2020, and over 750,000 sq ft in new construction within the first five months of 2021.
“Campbell Heights’ strategic location and access to talent puts it in high demand,” said Mayor Doug McCallum on Wednesday. “The boom we are seeing in Campbell Heights can also be attributed to Surrey’s resilient economy and our diversified industrial base. The interest in Campbell Heights shows no sign of slowing as more companies have committed to expand or set up shop at this sought-after location. The City of Surrey is continually working to create industrial opportunities to attract innovative companies that will bring quality jobs to Surrey residents.”
Sobey’s and Amazon are among the major corporations that have set up their state-of-the-art fulfillment hubs in Campbell Heights, building efficiencies and improving customer satisfaction in their distribution chain at this strategic location. In 2021, McKesson Canada, a global health care company, will be among the prominent businesses moving into Campbell Heights where a distribution centre for medicine and health equipment will be set up. In fact, Campbell Heights is not only attracting large multi-national companies, but also accommodating rapidly expanding mid-sized companies looking to grow within the Metro Vancouver region.
The food processing sector is an example of a high growth area, with Pace Processing doubling their local footprint, and Nanak Foods also recently announcing plans to expand by 85% into 185,000 square foot building for food processing, which is projected to add an additional 100 employees.
The City said that in an environment of growing regional industrial land scarcity, Campbell Heights continues to attract strong interest for investment attraction and business expansion. Currently, the City is working with 34 businesses looking to potentially locate in the area.
