Surrey’s Panorama Ridge Thunder wins Junior Girls Provincial Basketball Champions, Savannah Dhaliwal is tournament MVP

HEADLINES BASKETBALL WINNERSIT was an all-Surrey final, at the 2015 Telus Junior Girls Provincial Basketball Champions last Saturday at the home of the high school basketball  championships at the Langley Events Center with Panorama Ridge Thunder bagging the gold with a 54-35 win over Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers.

The first half was a tight battle, but Panorama Ridge came out strong in the second with a very tough defense. Lord Tweedsmuir were able to score merely nine points in the second half.

Panorama Ridge forward Savannah Dhaliwal was named tournament MVP.

Thunder coach John Sawerby told the media that Sav is their machine; she drives Thunder basketball.

Interestingly enough, the entire Panorama Ridge team is made up of girls from the Punjabi community. Maybe the team should be called “The Punjab Thunder”!

Great coaching by John Sowerby, Mrs. Rajwinder Bindra and Chris Nelson.
