ON Wednesday, May 6 at approximately 11 p.m., New Westminster Police received a 9-1-1 call from someone describing a woman being slashed with a knife. The caller said that two men were fleeing the scene and they provided descriptions of the suspects.

Officers rushed to the New Westminster SkyTrain station to provide aid to the woman who was found with a laceration.

Within minutes, officers located two men matching the suspect descriptions on Columbia Street. When officers called out to the men, they split up and ran in different directions. After two foot pursuits the suspects quickly found themselves in police custody.

One of the suspects was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, drugs, and several thousands of dollars of counterfeit currency.

“We’d like to thank the caller who made the decision to call 9-1-1,” stated Media Relations Officer Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Anyone can make the choice to be an active bystander and help victims of crime by relaying important information about what you’re seeing to police.”

The victim was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services Paramedics. At this stage in the investigation, it is unclear what relationship, if any, exists between the victim and the suspects.
