When cancer forced Terry Fox to end his cross-country Marathon of Hope, he left it for us to continue his legacy.
However, that legacy will not live on in Abbotsford, at least not this year. Sunday’s run has been cancelled because a lead organizer could not be found.
“There was a great group of people, a few individuals that came forward… but with it getting kind of down to the wire and not having anybody wanting to step up and take that run organizer leadership role, unfortunately we had to make a decision,” says Donna White, provincial director of the Terry Fox Foundation.
“We had a gentleman who’s done the run for the last couple of years and was unable to continue this year and despite putting a plea out into the community looking for a leader to come forward, we weren’t able to have somebody to take on a leadership role with the event.”
White is hoping the run will return to Abbotsford soon; in the meantime, she encourages those who had hoped to take part Sunday to join events in Chilliwack, Mission, or Langley instead.
