The new public face of Surrey RCMP: Cpl. Scotty Schumann

 

POLICE SURREY RCMP Cpl. SchumannSURREY RCMP on Tuesday formally introduced the detachment’s new Media Relations Officer, Cpl. Scotty Schumann.

Coming from Surrey RCMP Traffic Services, Schumann will now be responding to media inquiries and supporting the detachment’s commitment to public safety, community engagement and crime reduction.

“I am looking forward to continuing the good relationships we have with our media partners and keeping our community informed about relevant public safety issues,” said Schumann. “I have lived in the area for over 30 years and am very familiar with the community’s issues and concerns.”

“Corporal Schumann’s strong interpersonal skills and relevant experience make him an asset to our detachment and unit,” said Sgt. Dale Carr, Media Relations and Special Events. “The community is fortunate to have a dedicated officer with so much continuous service here in Surrey.”

Schumann has spent his entire 14 years of RCMP service at the Surrey Detachment. He has been the recipient of two Officer-in-Charge awards for his enforcement efforts and been nominated to Alexa’s Team twice for his commitment to reducing impaired driving.

Schumann enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenagers as well as his two dogs, two cats, and a tank full of fish. He also enjoys scuba diving and motorcycling in his spare time.

Surrey’s previous Media Relations Officer, Cpl. Bert Paquet, has been promoted and transferred to Winnipeg where he is now working in RCMP’s “D” Division Communication Services.
