Trainee pilots Abhay Gadru and Yash Ramugade from India dead in Chilliwack plane crash (update)

UPDATE

Media reports say that two trainee pilots from India — Abhay Gadru and Yash Ramugade, both 25, from Mumbai — were killed in the crash.

ON Friday at 2 p.m., Chilliwack RCMP received reports of a plane that had crashed into a forested area near a building in the 8100-block of Young Road in Chilliwack. Police, fire and BC Emergency Health Services responded.

Three people onboard are confirmed to be deceased. The BC Coroners Service and Transport Safety Board are investigating.

Police said the scene is contained and there were no other reported injuries or risks to the public in the area.

NDTV reports from Mumbai that Abhay Gadru used to stay in Krishna Vandan Society in the Evershine area before he moved to Canada for his pilot training. His neighbour, Vaibhav Goyal, told NDTV: “We got a call at 5 am on Saturday and could not believe that something like this had happened to Abhay. His brother, Chirag, has also been studying in Canada since last year. Authorities in Canada have not let Chirag see Abhay’s body yet, and he has been told that he will be given Abhay’s belongings on Sunday.”

The neighbour said Chirag told him that he was trying to get in touch with the consulate so that Abhay’s body can be brought back home. Their parents are currently visiting some relatives in Delhi, he added.
