Two charged with attempted murder in January 2 shooting in New Westminster

TWO suspects have now been charged with ‘attempt to commit murder with a weapon’ in connection with a shooting in January in New Westminster.

In the early morning hours of January 2, New Westminster Police officers responded to a shooting in the 400-block of 12th Street. Multiple shots were fired into the residence and the suspects fled the scene. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the shooting.

Numerous specialty units assisted in collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and canvassing for CCTV footage.

After several months of investigation by the Major Crime Unit, two suspects were arrested and charges were approved relating to attempted murder, aggravated assault, and firearms offences.

Justin Crowchild, 40, and Danica Ulmer, 43, both of New Westminster, have each been charged with one count of attempt to commit murder with a weapon.

“Over many months investigators worked diligently to collect evidence, identify key evidence, and work with Crown Counsel in order to obtain charge approval,” said Sgt. Justine Thom on Thursday.

“The attempt to take someone’s life is a serious matter and bringing those responsible to justice is always a key goal with violent offences.”

Both suspects remain in custody.
