TWO people were wounded and a suspect fatally shot by Vancouver Police following a stabbing near Library Square on Wednesday morning.
Vancouver Police said they responded at 11:34 a.m. to a 9-1-1 call from staff at a restaurant near Robson and Hamilton Street. The caller reported a man had stolen alcohol and was armed with a knife inside the restaurant.
Officers responded immediately, and located the armed suspect inside a nearby 7-Eleven convenience store.
The suspect was shot by police and taken into custody. VPD officers and other first responders administered first aid to the suspect, who was taken to hospital and later died.
Two people were injured and taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has been notified.
The IIO said it was notified of the incident and has commenced an investigation.
Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm what happened leading up to and during the incident and what role, if any, police actions or inaction may have played in the man’s death.
