Two youths now charged in shooting targeting South Surrey home of friend of slain Sikh leader Nijjar

SURREY RCMP announced on Tuesday that two youths have now been charged in the investigation of shots fired at the South Surrey residence of Simranjeet Singh, who was closely associated with slain Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar who was president of Surrey’s Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara.

Surrey RCMP noted that at the time of this incident, there was speculation circulating that this was connected to foreign interference. However, investigators have not established any links to foreign interference in relation to this matter.

On February 1, at approximately 1:21 a.m., Surrey RCMP received a report of shots fired at a residence in the 2800-block of 154 Street.

A car was riddled with bullets as was the house. A bullet missed the homeowner’s sleeping child by two feet.

On February 6, the Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the 7700-block of 140 Street. Police seized three firearms and multiple electronic devices during the search.

On February 12, two 16-year-old males were arrested and the BC Prosecution Services approved charges of discharging a firearm into a place, and possessing a loaded prohibited firearm.  The youths are currently being held in custody awaiting their next court appearance.
