Vancouver cab driver assaulted, requires surgery

The Vancouver Taxi Association is calling on witnesses to come forward, after a cab driver was sent to hospital over the weekend.

The group’s Kulwant Sahota says the man has gone into surgery after he was sucker-punched in Yaletown early Sunday morning.

He says it happened after a confrontation with passengers over a $6.00 fare. “His face is black. His eyes, they’re all black.”

The Association’s Carolyn Bauer says it’s the third assault on drivers in three weeks.

She notes there were four passengers in the taxi – a man and three women. She hopes one of them will speak up. “He’s a family man. He was just doing his job. He was going to let the $6.00 fare go. It’s just so wrong.” Police are investigating.
