VANCOUVER Police are appealing to the victims and witnesses of several unprovoked attacks in Gastown last month and have released surveillance footage of an incident with hopes the people involved will come forward.

“This assault appears to have occurred without provocation,” said Constable Tania Visintin on Wednesday. “We are asking the people in this video to come forward, as not only are they victims of a crime, but they could have important information on the circumstances that led up to the assaults.”

VPD officers responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls on November 28 after witnesses saw a man slap a woman, assault a cyclist, then attack a person walking with a group outside of Nesters Market near Cordova and Abbott streets . The suspect also allegedly instigated a fight near the Metropole Pub and brandished a weapon before police arrived on scene.

Following a confrontation with VPD and Transit Police, the suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital. The Independent Investigations Office is investigating the police-involved shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
