Vehicle collides with train in Maple Ridge

ON Monday, September 14 at approximately 10 p.m., Maple Ridge RCMP received a report of a vehicle that collided with a train near Haney Bypass and 225 Street.

Officers attended and learned that a vehicle was travelling eastbound on Haney Bypass when it veered off course and drove through a gate and onto the railway before colliding with a moving train.

The 54-year-old male driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was safely removed from the vehicle by Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue Services and transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services. The driver sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Significant property damage was sustained to nearby train equipment and signage. CPKC Police were notified and all trains were stopped to allow for emergency services to work safely.

Officers spoke to potential witnesses on scene and are looking into all possible factors. The investigation is ongoing.
