Whitecaps FC clinch berth in 2017 MLS Cup playoffs

VANCOUVE: With Saturday night’s 1-0 win over Sporting Kansas City, Vancouver Whitecaps FC officially clinched a berth in the 2017 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. This is the third time in four seasons that Whitecaps FC have made the playoffs under head coach Carl Robinson.

“We’re excited to take Vancouver into the playoffs, but we know that there is still plenty of work to be done,” said Whitecaps FC President Bob Lenarduzzi. “We have a team with grit and character that this city can really get behind and be proud of, and we’re going to need everyone behind us to make this season something special.”

Saturday’s victory, which snapped Sporting KC’s MLS home unbeaten run at 24 matches, extended Vancouver’s lead atop the Western Conference with just three matches remaining. Whitecaps FC will play one more home match at BC Place before the playoffs begin, hosting San Jose Earthquakes in a crucial match on Sunday, October 15. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.ca/whitecapsfc.

Season Ticket Members were emailed information on Friday in regard to securing their seats for the duration of the playoffs, as well as pre-sale information for additional seats and single match tickets. The deadline for Season Ticket Members to forfeit their seats and opt out of taking part in the 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs will be Monday, October 16.

The public on sale date for playoff tickets will be Tuesday, October 10 at 10 a.m. PT, with tickets available at ticketmaster.ca/whitecapsfc.

Should the ‘Caps finish in third or fourth place in the Western Conference, they will host a Knockout Round match on either Wednesday, October 25 or Thursday, October 26 at BC Place. A victory in the Knockout Round would see a second home match to begin the Conference Semifinals just days later, on either Sunday, October 29 or Tuesday, October 31.

If the ‘Caps clinch first or second place in the Western Conference, they will receive a bye through the Knockout Round and move immediately to the two-leg Conference Semifinals. As the higher seed, they would host the second leg on Sunday, November 5.

The Western Conference Championship series will also take place over two legs, first on Tuesday, November 21, with the return leg on Thursday, November 30.

MLS Cup will be played on Saturday, December 9 at the home venue of the finalist with the best regular season record.
