NEW Westminster Police are appealing for witnesses after a youth was assaulted with a baseball bat.

On September 15, at approximately 8 p.m., four youths were walking home down the 700-block of 20th Street in New Westminster when a soccer ball belonging to one of the youths crossed the path of a passing vehicle. The vehicle stopped and a man allegedly got out of the passenger side and chased the youths with a metal baseball bat. One of the youths was struck with the bat and required hospitalization.

“This is a gross overreaction on the part of the motorist,” said Sgt. Jeff Scott, “We want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident.”
