Young Sunshine Coast man dies after SkyTrain fall

A 20-year-old Sunshine Coast man is dead after falling nine metres after balancing on a railing inside a busy SkyTrain station platform.

Alexander Richey, of Roberts Creek, and his girlfriend got off at the Commercial-Broadway Station Saturday around 7:50 p.m. after having watched the Whitecaps game at BC Place, according to a Transit Police news release. Richey jumped on a railing inside the station and sat facing the platform. He then lost his balance and fell 30 feet to the sidewalk below, according to the release.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but passed away Sunday afternoon.

Transit Police don’t suspect foul play but are asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken with them to call 604-515-8300 and quote file number 2013-10430.
