THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Tuesday that a youth has been charged in the 2022 stabbing death of Leroy Billy in Surrey.
On August 18, 2022, Surrey RCMP responded to an assault in progress at the intersection of 184 Street and Fraser Highway and found 45-year-old victim Billy suffering from stab wounds. Billy was transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation and worked closely in partnership with Surrey RCMP, the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section and the BC Coroners Service.
On August 18, 2023, a charge of manslaughter was laid against a 17-year-old youth from Surrey. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of the accused will not be released, IHIT said.
