16 charges approved against suspect in New Westminster break-and-enters

IN January, frontline patrol members at the New Westminster Police Department began an investigation into a break-and-enter on Richmond Street. The investigation was passed along to the New Westminster Street Crime Unit after evidence pointed to a suspect who may be responsible for multiple break-and-enters in the city.

A suspect was arrested and a search warrant was granted to a residence in Burnaby. After collecting additional evidence, the Street Crime Unit recommended 16 charges which were approved on February 5 against 38-year-old Ms. Lindsay Ellis.

* Four counts of break-and-enter to commit an indictable offence

* break-and-enter with intent to commit an indictable offence

* Two counts of theft of mail

* Two counts of theft

* One count of possession of break-in instruments

* One count of identity theft

* One count of possess identity documents

* One count of possession credit cards

* One count of possession of stolen property

* One count of possession of forged document

“We’d like to thank our officers for their excellent work on this file,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Residents are asked to be vigilant about securing their homes and garages. The NWPD will continue to monitor priority offenders as we remain focused on reducing crime in our community.”

At this time, Ellis remains in custody with a court date scheduled for February 24. The New Westminster Police Department would like to encourage residents to report break-and-enters by calling 604-525-5411. Anyone who witnesses a break-and-enter in progress is asked to call 9-1-1.
