2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: New crossover promises much

 By Autoreviewman

The new 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a well-known nameplate that once adorned the automakers sporty coupe. Now it re-emerges on compact CUV for 2018, featuring some aggressive styling a roof spoiler, deep front air dam and a hatchback configuration. It looks sporty and edgy. The Eclipse Cross (base MSRP: $27,798; SE, $29,998; SE Tech Package, $31,998; GT, $35,998) arrives with an as standard 1.5L four- cylinder turbo engine, that develops 152 hp and 184 lb-ft. The transmission is a sole CVT auto—with a choice of two wheel or All Wheel Drive.  I would highly recommend the Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) as the Eclipse Cross to buy. You get 215 mm of ground clearance and the proven S-AWC technology is one of the best AWD systems on the market,

All 2018 Eclipses arrive as standard with a roomy, well equipped cabin.  The front seats are supportive and comfortable and two adults, three at a squeeze will fit in the rear compartment. Everything feels to be of high quality in the interior, with good plastics and materials. There is a high level of base equipment such as a 7” touchscreen display mounted atop the dash that can also be controlled via a touchpad Satellite radio, Bluetooth, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are standard across the line. There are electronic driver aids, including a rear view camera and cruise control on the base model. The SE version offers BLIS and rear cross-traffic alert. The SE Tech offers forward collision warning and mitigation, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. The top GT trim adds safety-wise is a multi-view camera system, touchpad controls and head-up display. The Eclipse offers 640 Litres of storage behind the rear seats. With the rear seats folded there is 1,385 Litres of storage.

On the road, the Eclipse Cross performs admirably. The 1.5L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder offers: 152hp @ 5,500 rpm with Torque at 184 lb-ft @ 2,000-3,500 rpm. It is all delivered pretty seamlessly via the CVT. The ride is smooth and drama free. Features such as a responsive E-Diff, Vectoring control, Active stability control, yaw control and ABS  all ensure the best possible ride, control and handling on different surfaces. Note, there three selectable drive models include Auto, Snow and Gravel, that come with S-AWC system for superior performance. Fuel economy is rated at: 9.6/8.9/9.3 L/100 km city/highway/combined. All in all, a very impressive vehicle backed by an unbeatable 20-year warrantee.

2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Priced from $27,798 – $35,998.
