THE Operation Red Nose 29th annual safe ride campaign was launched on Wednesday in British Columbia. True to its mission of safety and solidarity, this free volunteer service has enabled millions of people to get home safe during the holiday season over the past few decades.
From November 29 to December 31, the host organizations in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Kamloops, Prince George, and Williams Lake, will be offering their safe ride service, once again reinforcing the community spirit that characterizes this landmark initiative. In Canada, nearly 70 local host organizations will deploy the annual campaign in seven provinces.
Thousands of volunteers impatiently await the first night of operation to proudly put on the famous red vest and provide safe rides to numerous motorists through this extraordinary and festive outreach. By calling on Operation Red Nose and its volunteers, you can enjoy a ride home that is both fun and safe. In addition, the campaign allows you to support local youth or amateur sport organizations, since all donations are turned over to such organizations. You can now visit www.operationrednose.com to obtain valuable information or to register as a volunteer. Local dates and hours of operation, as well as other useful details, are also available on the website or via the Red Nose mobile app.
“As Operation Red Nose begins its 41st annual campaign in the country, the importance of our mission remains clear. And without the unwavering commitment of our volunteers, the true pillars of our organization, that mission could not be fulfilled. Together, we play a crucial role in improving road safety, year after year, by providing a safe ride service that saves lives and raises awareness on the dangers of impaired driving” says Jean-Marie De Koninck, Founding President of Operation Red Nose.
As a proud provincial partner, ICBC says it is pleased to continue its association with Operation Red Nose to significantly contribute to making the roads of the province safer. “Operation Red Nose and its many dedicated volunteers help make our roads safer every holiday season,” says Clay Steiro, ICBC’s manager of road safety program delivery. “Let’s all celebrate the season safely. If your plans involve alcohol or drugs, make a plan to get home safely by using a designated driver or calling a taxi, rideshare, or Operation Red Nose. By making a safe choice, you’re helping to keep everyone on our roads safe this holiday season.”
This year, Operation Red Nose announced the induction of Ken and Anne Smith into the organization’s Hall of Fame. This dedicated couple has devoted countless years to advancing Operation Red Nose’s mission, wholeheartedly embodying the values of solidarity and mutual support that define our cause. Through their unwavering commitment and genuine desire to make a meaningful impact, they have left an indelible mark on the organization, becoming pillars within the community. It is with gratitude and admiration that Operation Red Nose bestows upon them this well-deserved honor.
Operation Red Nose is a non-profit organization with a mission to encourage responsible behaviour to prevent impaired driving. The organization also supports local youth and amateur sports projects with 100% of the funds raised through the safe ride service being kept in the host communities.
