3 arrested after Downtown Vancouver building vandalized

VANCOUVER Police arrested three people Friday evening, after protesters vandalized a downtown office tower.

“The VPD supports protesters’ right to peacefully assemble and express their opinions, however, we will not stand by when people choose to break the law or damage property,” said Sgt. Steve Addison.

The arrests occurred around 5 p.m. on Friday, after approximately 250 people gathered outside Government of Canada offices near Burrard Street and West Hastings. Three people in the group allegedly used coloured paint to vandalize glass windows and walls of the building, and were arrested for mischief by VPD officers.

A 20-year-old man and two women, aged 18 and 16, were taken to Vancouver Jail. They have since been released pending their next appearance in court.
