THE New Westminster Police Department responded to three separate collisions involving pedestrians between November 22 and November 24.
The first incident occurred on November 22 in the 500-block of 6th Street. A man called 9-1-1 to report that he had been struck by the driver of a vehicle. Officers arrived alongside New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services and BC Emergency Health Services. The man’s injuries were determined to be minor and the driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
Approximately one hour later, officers in the downtown core heard a collision in the unit block of 8th Street. Officers learned that a pedestrian had been struck and that the driver involved didn’t stop. Officers provided aid to the pedestrian and quickly located the driver nearby on Carnarvon Street.
On November 24 a pedestrian was struck by a driver while in a marked crosswalk in the Sapperton neighbourhood. The driver remained on scene and investigators have seized the vehicle as part of their investigation.
“Visibility is reduced at this time of year and that increases the risk for everyone on the road,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We are asking people to slow down, stay focused, and look out for each other. Road safety is a shared responsibility between both drivers and pedestrians.”
All files remain under investigation.
