MAPLE Ridge RCMP are investigating after a fatal motor vehicle incident involving a motorcyclist occurred over the weekend in Maple Ridge.

On June 13 at approximately 8:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and 287 Street.

Officers on scene learned that a black Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling westbound on Lougheed Highway when it collided with a grey Ford pickup truck. The collision resulted in the motorcyclist suffering fatal injuries. Attending Emergency Health Services confirmed the death of the 33-year-old male motorcyclist on scene. The driver of the pickup was uninjured and stayed on scene. A passenger in the pickup truck was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police secured the scene and spoke to numerous individuals and canvassed for additional witnesses and video surveillance footage.

The westbound lanes of Lougheed Highway were closed for a time but eventually reopened.

Maple Ridge RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from multiple units, including the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS).

All possible contributing factors are being looked into and considered. The investigation is ongoing.
