ON February 13, Mission RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit was checking on the house of a known offender linked to violent crimes and the drug trade. As they did, they spotted someone else’s car leaving the residence.

Database checks confirmed that the car had been pulled over in Maple Ridge a couple of weeks earlier, and the driver had been found to be in possession of cash and a quantity of drugs consistent with drug trafficking.

Mission RCMP officers followed the vehicle and pulled it over a short time later. Due to the driver’s history, combined with items posing a potential risk to public safety visible inside the vehicle, police searched the vehicle and found a rifle scope, cash, and a quantity of fentanyl that was again consistent with drug trafficking.

The car, cash, drugs and rifle scope were seized, and the matter was referred to the Civil Forfeiture Office of British Columbia. On July 14, the Civil Forfeiture Office confirmed that the cash and the man’s 2011 Kia Soul have been accepted for forfeiture to the Province of BC.

Mission RCMP thanked the Civil Forfeiture Office for their continued partnership and assistance. They said they will continue referring seized property and cash to their office whenever appropriate. Anyone who uses their vehicle, residence, or other property to commit crimes, or who obtains cash or property as a result of crimes they commit, should be aware that they risk those items being seized and forfeited, even if no criminal charges are laid.
