MAPLE Ridge RCMP on Monday said that an arrest has been made in the reported mischief incident involving graffiti at Golden Ears Provincial Park.

The alleged suspect turned himself into police last week and has since been released on a promise to appear in court.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to gather evidence, obtain additional information, and prepare reports for potential criminal proceedings. Police are also working closely with BC Parks staff, who are conducting a parallel investigation under the BC Parks Act.

Maple Ridge RCMP say they recognize the significant public interest in this matter and understand the concerns expressed by residents and park users. While the investigation progresses, the public is encouraged to avoid drawing conclusions until all the facts have been fully examined.

Last week, police said they acknowledged that while this incident appeared to be an attempt at memorializing a drowning victim in the area, vandalism within a protected area is still considered a criminal offence. Such acts can harm the environment, diminish the experience of other park users, and create unnecessary cleanup cost for the community.
