SURREY Police Service (SPS) says there have been no extortion-related shootings in Surrey since July, and reported extortion threats have declined significantly, from 55 in the second quarter of 2026 to 18 since July.
“While this progress is encouraging, our work continues. Our Project Assurance team conducts daily patrols, engages with businesses and residents, and maintains regular contact with victims and their families. At the same time, our Extortion Response Team is advancing both new and historical investigations, drawing extensively on video evidence and other investigative techniques,” says SPS.
To date, over 40 charges have been laid in SPS files, and the Canada Border Services Agency has removed 26 Surrey-linked individuals from Canada.
SPS continues to collaborate with regional and national law enforcement partners to address extortions. Learn more: www.surreypolice.ca/extortions.
