OCTOBER 1 marks the beginning of Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month and the launch of the Purple Lights Nights campaign. Running throughout October, this campaign aims to raise awareness and honour victims of intimate partner violence.
As part of the Violence Against Women in Relationships (VAWIR) initiative, Purple Lights Nights sends a strong, collective message that intimate partner violence has no place in our community, say Abbotsford Police. The colour purple, symbolizing international awareness against intimate partner violence, will be prominently featured.
This year, in addition to illuminating their headquarters in purple as customary, Abbotsford Police along with its Victim Services Unit will showcase their newly commissioned police cruiser wrapped in purple to further engage the community and initiate important conversations about combating intimate partner violence.
“Let us remember the victims who have lost their lives to intimate partner violence, support survivors, and offer hope to those still enduring abuse.
“We urge anyone suffering from abuse to reach out for support. Help is available, and you are not alone,” say Abbotsford Police.
