THE Akal Football Club open team beat BCT Dasmesh Tigers 3-0 to win the Miri Piri Cup. Akal had a very talented team of young players aged 17-19 years with only three or four players over 20 years old. Eight players from this team will be playing in the U18 in the Canadian National Soccer Championships in October.
In the semi-final, Akal beat BCT United 2-0 in a very exciting and intense game. BCT United team had a very powerful team but the young Akal team totally outplayed them. Many coaches and supporters commented that this match was the best they had seen in many years.
In the final Akal FC-BCT Dasmesh Tigers match, the latter had a physical advantage and favoured a more direct approach. During the early stages of the match, Lucas Johnson, Akal goalkeeper, made two great saves. But gradually Akal took control and put on a fabulous display of football that the huge crowd of spectators enjoyed. Akal played an exciting European-style skillful passing game – very similar to world champions Germany – and fully deserved their 3-0 win with $3000 prize money.
