ON Friday, May 24 at 5:30 p.m., Surrey RCMP received a report of a robbery of a cell phone inside a business located in the 9200-block of 120 Street. Frontline officers attended the area and learned that two men had entered a business with what appeared to be firearms.
The two men then spoke with one of the employees and stole a cell phone as they walked out. The two suspects were wearing masks and fled in a vehicle. CCTV canvassing is being conducted in the area. They took off in what appeared to be a Dodge Charger.
Punjabi journalist Gurpreet Singh Sahota reported on X: “An immigration consultant in Surrey was threatened by two gunmen in his office. They were asking him why he hadn’t been answering their boss’s phone. He said he had received a phone call a few weeks ago demanding a ransom. They took his cell phone. The whole episode was recorded on CCTV, and he has already reported it to the police.”
This is quite obviously an extortion attempt by South Asian gangsters targeting South Asian businesses.
According to the CCTV images of the suspects shown by Global News, the two men appear to be South Asians. Global News said that the two were in an immigration consultant’s office. They took off in what appeared to be a Dodge Charger.
Police said that no one was injured in this incident that appears to be targeted. The investigation is in early stages and motive of this incident is unknown at this time
