Burnaby RCMP recover over $23,000 worth of stolen merchandise, arrest 73 people

BURNABY RCMP arrested 73 suspects and recovered over $23,000 worth of stolen merchandise during a weeks-long targeted Boost and Bust operation at Metrotown.

Due to a significant increase in calls for service, Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team (CRT) secured Special Investigations and Targeted Enforcement (SITE) funding to support a strategic project focused on retail theft at Metrotown.

The initiative commenced on December 20, 2025, and concluded on January 24. CRT officers dedicated multiple days over five weeks to the project.

With the assistance of local loss prevention officers and mall security, the project resulted in the following:

  • 73 arrests
  • 3 outstanding warrants executed
  • 2 suspects found breaching court ordered conditions
  • 2 youth restorative justice referrals
  • 2 knife seizures
  • The recovery of over $23,000 worth of stolen merchandise

“The project focused on a high-theft commercial area with combined intelligence led enforcement, increased visibility, and strong collaboration with retailers and security partners,” said Inspector Amanda Harnett, Burnaby RCMPs Community Programs Officer.

“Theft rates were reduced and overall public safety improved as a result of the initiative. Criminals should expect to see this initiative deployed in other high-theft Burnaby areas in the future.”
