BURNABY’S RCMP’s Gang Enforcement Team (BGET) has made a significant seizure, including more than 7 kilograms of suspected cocaine and well over $60,000 in cash.

On June 20, during proactive patrols, BGET officers conducted a traffic stop on a distracted driver using his cellular phone while driving. Observations made by officers resulted in the arrest of the 38-year-old male driver.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of drugs and cash, including over 7 kilograms of suspected cocaine and more than $60,000 in cash, which was cleverly concealed in the vehicle.

Along with the cash and drugs, officers seized the vehicle, two knives and three cellular phones.

The investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges will be recommended when appropriate, police said.

“BGET continues to work closely with partner agencies, such as CFSEU, conducting high-visibility patrols throughout the city,” said Inspector Matt Toews, Burnaby RCMP’s Investigative Services Officer. “Our partnership with CFSEU is integral to the work being done by BGET, and a special thanks goes out to the CFSEU officer that assisted in this investigation.”
