Cab driver Gagandeep Singh Sidhu of Kelowna charged with sexual assault

A charge has now been laid against cab driver Gagandeep Singh Sidhu, 37, of Kelowna following a Kelowna RCMP investigation into an allegation of sexual assault involving a local cab driver in late May.

On May 28, police received a report alleging that a taxi passenger had been sexually assaulted by a taxi driver. Police were told that the alleged victim was outside the taxi at her final destination in Kelowna when the alleged assault took place, during the early morning hours of May 26.

Following the subsequent investigation, a suspect was arrested on May 30 at the Kelowna RCMP Detachment and released on strict conditions pending a first court appearance.

The suspect’s chauffeurs permit was surrendered and seized by police.

A detailed report was forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for charge consideration and a single count of sexual assault was subsequently approved.

Sidhu made a first appearance in Kelowna Law Courts on July 4. The matter is now set for a further court appearance on July 25 at 1:30 p.m.
