City of Delta’s response to storm events

THE City of Delta on Monday said that in coordination with Delta’s emergency services teams, it has been working around the clock responding to issues related to the storm events that began over the weekend. City crews have been working to ensure the drainage infrastructure system remains in good working order and although it is at full capacity, all drainage pump stations are operational.

The City has deployed all available portable drainage equipment to assist with flood relief efforts in the community. Additional staff will be available through the evening to address issues related to both flooding and high winds. The City said it appreciates the community’s efforts to prepare for the storm events and patience when addressing these issues under challenging situations.

The City noted that residents have likely noticed challenges contacting the City for service during the course of the day due to intermittent telecommunication service issues that are prevalent across western Canada. Until regular telephone service is re‑established, residents and businesses requiring assistance from the City can also continue trying the Talk Delta app or online form available at Delta.ca/talktodelta to report flooding, downed trees, or other issues. Although service requests received through this form are monitored, it should not be used for emergencies; for all emergencies call 9-1-1.

Due to a power outage, Sungod Recreation Centre is closed for the rest of the day and evening. The Extreme Weather Shelter at Ladner United Church is remaining open through the week during its regular hours of 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
