White House correspondents’ dinner cancelled as shooter apprehended (updates)

Donald Trump

Just announced (6:40 p.m. PT)

President will address a press conference in half an hour and wants the event rescheduled within a month. All attendees told by law authorities to leave.

A Secret Service agent was shot, but his protective gear apparently saved him. He was taken to hospital.

Earlier:

Loud sounds inside the White House correspondents’ dinner disrupted the event with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance being ushered out by the Secret Service through different exit points.

The shooter was apparently shot in the Washington Hilton Hotel lobby where White House correspondents’ dinner was being held.
He’s a 30-year-old man from California.
Reports say the shooter was apprehended — and is probably still alive.
Trump was led out safely. He is fine.
When the loud sound was heard, Secret Service members rushed into the ballroom and rushed out all the VVIPs while other attendees huddled under the tables. As phone signals were very weak in the area, everyone seemed baffled as to what precisely had occurred.
Reports said that Trump wanted to come back — but quite obviously the Secret Service did not allow that.
It appears stunning that the shooter apparently went through metal detectors with a weapon.
Initially it was reported that The White House correspondents’ dinner would resume, but it was finally announced that the event had been cancelled and attendees were asked by security officials to leave.
