ON Wednesday at approximately 12:25 p.m., Coquitlam RCMP received a report of an alleged threat against a school in the 500-block of Porier Street of Coquitlam. The school was immediately placed in a hold a secure and frontline officers quickly responded to the scene.
As this investigation was unfolding, Coquitlam RCMP received additional reports of alleged threats against schools in the cities of Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.
Coquitlam RCMP quickly engaged with various partner agencies, including the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service.
“We want to assure the public that every measure will be taken to identify the origins of these threats,” said Inspector Veronica Fox, Community Programs and Administration Officer.
“All of the affected schools have been cleared and the hold and secures have been lifted, however, out of an abundance of caution our officers continue to remain on scene.”
As these investigations are actively unfolding no further information will be provided at this time, police said.
On Thursday, Sgt. Adriana O’Malley, Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer, said: “We recognize incidents of this nature can be concerning to our community and can have an impact on the sense of safety and security. We want to assure you we are working collaboratively with the School District as well as the affected schools to address these ongoing incidents. Our investigators are working around the clock to advance these investigations and identify those involved.”
Coquitlam RCMP and the Coquitlam School District are working collaboratively and remain in close, ongoing communication.
