Coquitlam RCMP warn public following alleged home invasion

COQUITLAM RCMP are warning the public following an alleged home invasion in the 2700-block of Nadina Drive of Coquitlam.

On Sunday, May 24, Coquitlam RCMP received a report of an alleged home invasion. According to the elderly victim, on May 22, he was asleep and woke up to find a stranger in his residence. The victim advised he was physically assaulted and forcibly confined. The suspect then allegedly stole the victim’s cell phone, credit cards and vehicle. Once the victim was able to free himself, he reported the incident to police.

The suspect is described as:

  • White male;
  • Muscular and rotund;
  • 5’10 to 5”11;
  • 250 pounds;
  • Clean shaven.

The suspect was wearing:

  • Black rimmed glasses;
  • Dark baseball hat with the words RCMP and logo on the front;
  • A lanyard around the neck with an emblem or badge;
  • White, short sleeved, collared golf shirt;
  • Blue and white running shoes;
  • Tan leather gloves.

The suspect is believed to be in possession of the victim’s vehicle. Coquitlam RCMP is asking the public to be on the lookout for a green 2022 Hyundai Kona with BC Licence Plate AWE311. If you see this vehicle do not approach, call 9-1-1 and report it to the police of jurisdiction.

It is believed the same suspect spoke with a neighbour earlier in the day. During that interaction the suspect indicated he was a tradesperson and was asking about the victim and his residence.

“We are alerting the public to this incident as the suspect was allegedly wearing items that identified him as a police officer,” says Sgt. Adriana O’Malley, Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer, “While this individual was not a police officer, the use of police-related clothing is troubling. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report and suspicious activity immediately.”
