Fall transit changes to benefit students and workers

TRANSLINK has released its upcoming Fall Service Changes, which will increase service on 22 bus routes and introduce the route 44 UBC/Dundarave extension with express trips on weekdays between West Vancouver and UBC.

The route 44 extension will provide a one-seat ride, offering a direct alternative for customers transferring between routes 250 and 44 in Downtown Vancouver.

New seasonal peak service will extend route 44 six times daily:

  • Trips each weekday from West Vancouver to UBC at 6:58, 7:58, and 8:58 a.m.
  • Trips each weekday to West Vancouver from UBC at 3:05, 4:05, and 5:05 p.m.

As students return to schools across the region, service is also being increased on four routes serving UBC, SFU, and Capilano University.

Following feedback from the City of Surrey and local businesses, route 531 is being rerouted to improve connections and better serve the Campbell Heights industrial area. This reroute will provide new service along 36 Avenue and 192 Street, offering direct access to businesses in Campbell Heights.

Service adjustments are being made on 54 bus routes in total, in order to best allocate bus service to meet customer demand. Some routes will have service increases at busier times of the day, offset by reductions during periods of lower demand.

The changes will take effect on September 4. Go to translink.ca/servicechanges for more information on specific route changes.

Transit service changes occur every January, April, June, and September; they are based on seasonal patterns and recent trends in customer demand. TransLink continues to monitor ridership to ensure service is provided where it’s needed most.

Kevin Quinn, CEO, TransLink, said: “As our region continues to experience rapid population growth, these service changes will help ensure accessible and efficient public transit in communities across Metro Vancouver. They will also enable us to serve more neighbourhoods and connect residents to key destinations, such as business hubs and post-secondary schools.”

Mark Sager, Mayor of West Vancouver, said: “We are thrilled to see the return of bus service travelling between Dundarave in West Vancouver and UBC. It is a huge win for our community and will serve our residents well, especially our students; we welcome the newly-extended route of the 44.”
