ON Monday, the BC RCMP announced that they have notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of the incident in Surrey where a man suffered injuries.

On Saturday, November 25, at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers with the British Columbia Highway Patrol attempted to pull over a tractor which was travelling westbound on Highway 1 near the 176 street turn off.

Officers had reportedly attempted to pull the tractor over for an extended period while it was part of a convoy that was heading to Vancouver.

During the interaction, the tractor and police vehicle collided, the tractor inverted, and came to a rest on its side, resulting in the driver suffering non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital.

The IIO BC is investigating police actions in the incident.

The British Columbia Highway Patrol is investigating actions of the driver and Surrey RCMP are investigating the collision between the tractor and police vehicle.

MEANWHILE, the IIO BC announced that it was notified of the incident on Saturday and has commenced an investigation. Initial investigative steps will seek to confirm the details of the incident and if the man’s injuries meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act.

The IIO BC is asking any person with relevant information or video footage of the incident to contact it via the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or using the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
