SURREY RCMP are looking for witnesses in a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of pedestrian in Newton.
On Tuesday, July 26 at approximately 11:59 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 7400-block of 121A Street.
Police located a pedestrian with serious injuries. He had been struck and pinned by a vehicle. With the assistance of bystanders, police were able to push the vehicle off the victim and began immediate first aid until BC Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire Service took over patient care.
The female pedestrian was transported to hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.
Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), are investigating the collision. The driver and passengers of the small grey SUV involved remained on scene.
The investigation is in the early stages and the cause of the collision has not yet been determined, however, impaired driving is believed to be a contributing factor, police said.
