THE Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society, in partnership with the event producer, Brandlive Management Group, is exploring the options for a different type of Honda Celebration of Light event in 2020.
“We hope to be able to make an announcement very soon, and in the meantime wish to thank our many partners, sponsors, participating countries and our millions of fans across the province and around the world for their ongoing support,” a press release announced on Monday.
“Our team has been following guidance from the relevant government authorities and cautiously preparing for our summer event. However, comments made by health authorities this weekend indicate we must now accept the reality that the largest public event in our province will not happen as planned in July 2020,” it added.
It noted: “For 30 years the skies above English Bay have come alive each summer in a celebration of community, music, food, and fireworks. British Columbia’s largest event, the Honda Celebration of Light, has been welcoming in excess of 1.3 million people annually to experience the magic of this free family event, the longest-running offshore fireworks competition in the world.”
