Horgan greets Fijian Canadians on Fiji Independence Day

PREMIER John Horgan on Saturday said in a statement: “Today, Fijian Canadians across British Columbia will celebrate Fiji Independence Day. This historic 50th anniversary recognizes the day Fiji gained freedom from British Colonial rule.

“For half a century, British Columbia has been enriched by the Fijian community. On this significant anniversary, let us recognize the tremendous contributions made by Fijian Canadians to help make British Columbia the strong, diverse and thriving province it is today.

“While COVID-19 precautions make it necessary to gather in small groups, I hope people will be able to celebrate virtually with their friends and families.

“On behalf of all British Columbians, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy 50th Independence Day!”
