IHIT called to Sunshine Coast after man found shot on highway

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has deployed to the Sunshine Coast after a deceased man was found in Halfmoon Bay (part of the Sunshine Coast Regional District) following a report of a shooting.

On Thursday, June 22 at 3:38 a.m., the Sunshine Coast RCMP were called to the 8000-block of Birch Way in Halfmoon Bay after a report of a shooting. Frontline officers located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

A suspect was identified at scene and taken into custody. IHIT has taken conduct of this investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Sunshine Coast RCMP Detachment, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

At this time, investigators are still working to confirm the identity of the victim.

“We’re asking anyone with information about this incident to please contact IHIT immediately,” said IHIT Constable Esther Tupper. “We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no continuing risk to public safety.”
