METRO Vancouver and Invest Vancouver have proclaimed June as Clean Transportation Month in the region. This declaration is also supported by the Province of British Columbia, making it a province-wide initiative.
Metro Vancouver’s Board of Directors declared June Clean Transportation Month to celebrate their region’s clean transportation industrial strengths, as well as the numerous clean transportation events occurring during the month.
Throughout June, Invest Vancouver, the regional economic development leadership service of Metro Vancouver, is celebrating the clean transportation sector in the region and spotlighting local innovations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reimagining the regional transportation experience, and engaging with policy and business leaders from around the world.
“Around the world, demand is growing for clean transportation solutions. Our region has been at the centre of clean transportation innovations, such as in hydrogen technology, for over three decades,” said Sav Dhaliwal, Chair of Metro Vancouver’s Board of Directors and the Invest Vancouver Management Board, on Wednesday. “Within the region, we are well positioned to benefit from existing strategic advantages in the clean transportation sector and solidify our region’s place as a global leader in the research, development, production, and export of new mobility solutions to climate change.”
On June 29, Invest Vancouver and CoMotion will host Motivate VANCOUVER, North America’s first next-gen mobility investor conference. Motivate VANCOUVER will bring together start-ups and early stage companies, investors, multinational corporations, and public authorities to focus on key areas of emerging mobility in the clean transportation space. The event will be held at the Pan Pacific Vancouver and more details are available at investvancouver.ca.
Other clean transportation events include:
- HUB Spring Go by Bike Week (May 30 – June 5)
- Vancouver Maritime Centre for Climate’s Green Shipping Corridors webinar (June 9)
- Car Free Day Surrey (June 11)
- TransLink’s New Mobility Forum (June 28)
- Vancouver Entrepreneurs Forum’s Clean Transportation event (June 28)
Invest Vancouver recently released a report, Clean Transportation: Actions to Strengthen the Sector in the Metro Vancouver Region, which identifies 13 recommendations informed by input from leaders in clean transportation. It also includes three key priorities around modernizing and streamlining the permitting process, improving access to highly-limited “heavy” industrial space, and supporting a hydrogen hub to accelerate industry growth.
