KAMLOOPS RCMP are investigating the sudden death of Muhammad “Ash” Zafar, located in the city’s West End neighbourhood, as a homicide.
On Monday, January 5, frontline officers responded to a residence on Dalgleish Drive for a check‑wellbeing call. Police located a deceased man inside the home. The area remains secured as investigators continue to examine the scene.
Based on the evidence gathered to date, police are treating the investigation as a homicide. At this time, the circumstances appear to be isolated, and there is no indication of any ongoing risk to the public.
The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation and is working to establish a timeline of Zafar’s movements and interactions leading up to his death.
“We are asking anyone who had recent contact with Mr. Zafar, or who may have information about his social network, activities, or associates, to reach out to investigators,” said Staff-Sgt. Kevin McIntyre of Kamloops RCMP. “Even small details can assist us in understanding the events leading up to this incident.”
Police are specifically seeking:
- Individuals who saw or spoke with Muhammad “Ash” Zafar between January 2 and January 5
- Anyone who observed unusual activity in the Dalgleish Drive / West End area
- Members of Zafar’s social or professional circles who may have relevant information that have not yet spoken with police
On Wednesday, Kamloops RCMP reiterated their call for public assistance as investigators continued to examine the circumstances surrounding Zafar’s death. They said that investigators continue to uncover new evidence as they work to piece together Zafar’s final movements.
“We are still asking anyone who had contact with Mr. Zafar between Saturday evening and late Sunday to reach out to investigators,” said McIntyre. “This includes individuals who use men‑seeking‑men dating sites or apps and may have communicated with him, or with someone using his images or profile information.”
“We are also appealing to anyone who noticed unusual behaviour in someone they know, such as unexplained injuries, sudden changes in routine, cancelled plans, or conduct that seemed out of character, as well as residents or visitors who observed suspicious activity in the Dalgleish Drive or West End area during that timeframe. Seemingly small details often produce significant outcomes, if something stood out to you, even for a moment, we need you to come forward.”
Kamloops RCMP are also reminding the public to take precautions when meeting new people through online platforms:
- Share your plans with a trusted friend or family member
- Arrange check‑ins before and after the meeting
- Meet in public places when possible
- Trust your instincts and leave if something feels unsafe
